Abstract

It is a pleasure to announce the second issue of our journal. Our journal is published twice annually both in online and printed format, and is indexed in ASOS [Akademia Sosyal Bilimler Indeksi] since its first issue was released. In the current issue, seven peer reviewed manuscripts which were formerly presented at the “First International Congress on Curriculum and Instruction,” 5-8 October, 2011, are published. Currently, there are still ongoing peer reviews for manuscripts submitted for consideration.

The current issue includes a selection of papers that were orally presented at the congress and subjected for peer review after the manuscripts were submitted for consideration to be published in the journal as mentioned above. The first paper is the full-text of the opening plenary keynote address of William Pinar called “Allegories of the Present: Curriculum Development in a Culture of Narcissism and Presentism” presented at the congress. Also, the full text of the paper presented by the researchers from Portugal, Rocha Guimarấes; Luzimar Barbalho da Silva; José Augusto Pacheco is included. The title of this paper is “Curriculum Differentiation in the Education of Youth and Adults in Portugal and Brazil”.

The current issue also includes papers that are the invaluable contributions of the following authors to the literature and our journal. Assist.Prof. Dr. Orhan Kumral ve Prof.Dr. Seda Saracaloğlu with their paper called “Curriculum Evaluation and Educational Criticism Model,” Assoc.Dr. Çetin Semerci and Şenel Elaldı’s “Metacognitive Beliefs of Medical Students (Cumhuriyet University Sample),” Aydın Erekmen and Assoc.Dr. Mehmet Yıldızlar’s “Elemantary School Teachers’ Level of Adaptation to the Mathematics Teaching Standards,” Dr. Mediha Sarı ve Assist.Prof.Dr. Fatma Sadık’s “Democracy Perceptions of Teacher Candidates (Çukurova University Sample)”, and Alev Ateş, Gonca Ural and Assist.Prof. Dr. Alper Başbay’s “Effect of Mevlana Community and Science Center Applications on Learners’ Science Attitudes and Contributions for Learning Process.”

With the encouragement and support from our dear members of TACI (Turkish Association of Curriculum and Instruction), our aim is to carry on our mission to publish and expose extinguished papers of respectable instructors, researchers, and young colleagues to our audience. Doubtless, the quality of the journal will prosper with the contributions of original and scientific works submitted. We, therefore, kindly urge you to give utmost attention to the rules and regulations for paper submission procedures provided on our website.

You are cordially invited both to submit manuscripts to be presented at the “2nd National Congress on Curriculum and Instruction” that will take place 27-29 September, 2012 at Abant İzzet Baysal University in Bolu, and for peer-review to be considered for publication in our journal. I look forward to meeting you all at our next congress.

Yours Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Özcan Demirel
